Is SysDVR free?
Yes. SysDVR is free, open-source software released under the GPL-2.0 license by its author, exelix11. If a site asks you to pay for the SysDVR download itself, it is not the official release.
Does SysDVR get your Switch banned?
Users report that SysDVR itself does not seem to cause bans, and it does not intercept Nintendo’s server communication. That is a community report, not a guarantee: SysDVR requires custom firmware, and running CFW always carries its own risks. Decide with that in mind.
Does SysDVR work on Switch 2?
No. SysDVR is a sysmodule for a Nintendo Switch running Atmosphère custom firmware, and there is no Switch 2 version. Streaming a Switch 2 currently means using a capture card with the dock’s HDMI output.
Is there a SysDVR app for iPhone or iPad?
No. There is no native iOS client. The workaround is Simple Network (RTSP) mode: point an RTSP-capable player app on the iPhone or iPad at rtsp://<your Switch IP>:6666/ while a compatible game is running.
Can SysDVR stream at 1080p or 60fps?
No. The video is fixed at 720p and 30fps with H.264 compression — a hardware limit of the console’s built-in video recording service that SysDVR reuses. No client, platform or setting changes it. If you need 1080p60, you need a capture card.
Which games work with SysDVR?
Out of the box, games that support the console’s native video recording: long-press the capture button — if a clip records, the game streams. The author’s own dvr-patches, matched to your console firmware, add support for most other games, though a small number may still not work properly.
Why is the screen black or the menu missing?
SysDVR only captures the active gameplay of a compatible game. The Home menu, system settings and homebrew launched as applets are not captured and show as a blank screen. To stream homebrew, launch it by title takeover: hold R while launching a compatible game.
Does USB mode work while the Switch is docked?
No. USB streaming does not work while the console is docked — use TCP Bridge or Simple Network mode for docked play. For USB, prefer a USB-A to USB-C cable; USB-C to USB-C cables are known to be unreliable for this.
Why does the client say my console is outdated, or not find it?
The console sysmodule and the client must run the same version. Update both to the same release, then reboot the console. Also give the full build about 20 seconds after boot to start, and note the USB-Only build does not support the Settings app.
Is the Android APK safe to install from app stores?
Do not install it from any store. Since v6.0 the Android client is distributed only on the project’s GitHub releases page; reuploads to the Play Store or other stores are not official. Match the SHA-256 on our download page if you want to verify the file.
What do I need on Windows besides the client?
For the standard Windows x64 client, just the latest Microsoft Visual C++ redistributables if the app asks for them. A separate .NET install is only needed for the cross-platform dotnet build used on unsupported architectures. For USB streaming, install the driver once from the USB Driver option inside the client.
Is SysDVR.net the official SysDVR website?
No. SysDVR.net is an unofficial guide and download-index site. The official project lives on GitHub under exelix11/SysDVR, and every file on our download page links to that official release.
